Raymond's Story - life after PTSD |
After leaving the army I suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which resulted in the breakdown of my marriage of 20 years. As a result I became homeless and spent four years sleeping rough and sofa surfing in Essex and London. My parents had died when I was young and I had nowhere to turn.
After approaching Basildon Council for help, a housing adviser directed me to a local charity who gave me details of AMRP’s Relocations scheme. After applying, the process took about six weeks. Living in the North East is much better, it’s quieter and friendly – people speak in the street and there are more green spaces for walking my dog and spending time outdoors. Being in the area has made dealing with my PTSD much easier.
